Managed by Sarasota County, Indian Mound Park is located in Englewood Florida and is named after the indigenous inhabitants of the land who settled in the area from 1000 BC to 1350 AD. The mound was the site of excavation including the surrounding habitation complex which resulted in the recovery of nearly 30,000 pottery shards. It was determined that the mound was not used primarily as a burial mound, but as a midden or an accumulation of refuse. There were many shells and animal bones uncovered along with the tools and personal items of the inhabitants.
